Water margin up by 10% since Langat 2 began operations

Once package B of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant is completed, some 565MLD of water can be channelled to around 900,000 residents in the Klang Valley.
THE water reserve margin has now increased to 10% since operations at the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant began.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Amirudin said the project was 80% completed and was producing 325 million litres per day (MLD).
He said when package B of the project was fully completed, some 565MLD of water could be channeled to some 900,000 residents in a day.
“The new treatment plant will help reduce reliance on existing plants.
“In the past some of the older plants were operating at 100% full capacity.
“With the new plant, we will also be able to better control the treatment quality, sustainability as well as the work flow at the plant.
“We had very low water margins in the past.
“It was as low as 3%.
“We are confident that our margin will increase further. It now shows about 10%, ” said Amirudin after his visit to Langat 2.
The new treatment plant is equipped with a modern water treatment facility based on the Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) system.
The system is able to absorb odour that is produced by organic substance in the raw water.
The system is also able to produce high water quality of 0.2 Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU).
Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) chief executive officer Abdul Hadi Ali said PAAB successfully carried out the testing and commissioning (C&T) process in December.
The process consisted of channeling raw water from Kelau Dam in Pahang to the Langat 2 outlet portal in Hulu Langat, Selangor.
The raw water also passes through a 44.6km tunnel across the Titiwangsa range.
Upon the completion of the C&T, the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant started distributing treated water to Air Selangor beginning Dec 21,2019 in stages.
Households in areas such as Hulu Langat, Cheras, Pudu and Semenyih are among those receiving water from the plant.
Construction works of Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant began in March 2014 and is estimated to be fully completed by 2023.
This plant, by far the largest in South-East Asia, is able to provide 1,130 MLD to residents in the Klang Valley.

US on track to unseat Saudi Arabia as #2 oil producer in the world

Can Anything Stop The Shale Surge?

Friday, January 19, 2018 Oil prices fell back a bit at the end of this week. EIA data shows a rise in U.S. production, but also another strong decline in inventories. Brent is struggling to hold above $70, and benchmark prices await some direction. IEA: Explosive growth in U.S. shale will test oil prices.  The IEA’s latest Oil Market Report paints a mixed picture for prices. Clearly, the market is tightening, the IEA says, but it also says that shale growth will be “explosive” this year.
