‘Water source projects come under Putrajaya’

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Putrajaya has been responsible for carrying out water source projects in Johor after the state government signed a master agreement some 10 years ago.

State international trade, investment and utility committee chairman Jimmy Puah Wee Tse said a master agreement was signed between the Federal Government, Syarikat Air Johor Sdn Bhd (SAJ), Ranhill Utilities Berhad, SAJ Holdings Sdn Bhd and Water Management Berhad (PAAB) to restructure the state’s water supply on March 11, 2009.
“Through the agreement, clean water supply is regulated by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) through Act 654 (SPAN Act 2006) where Ranhill SAJ is the plant operator responsible for treating water and channelling it to users based on Act 655 (Water Service Industry Act 2006).

“PAAB is responsible for funding water supply infrastructure projects such as plant construction, pipes installation and replacement, building tanks and land acquisition,” he added.

Puah said this in his reply to Alwiyah Talib (PH-Endau) during the state assembly sitting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here in Kota Iskandar yesterday.

Alwiyah wanted to know the long- and short-term action of the state government in tackling the decreasing water level at Labong dam.

He pointed out that as part of a long-term plan in solving water woes at Labong dam, the state government would appeal to the Federal Government to carry out a raw water channelling project from Sungai Endau to the dam.

Puah added that among the projects that have been carried out by the Federal Government through the Water Supply Department and Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry was the Kahang dam project and Sungai Johor barrage project, both in 2017.

“The latest project that will be carried out soon is the channelling of raw water from Sungai Sedili Besar to Seluyut dam where the project is expected to start middle of 2020 and completed on Aug, 2023,” he added.

US on track to unseat Saudi Arabia as #2 oil producer in the world

Can Anything Stop The Shale Surge?

Friday, January 19, 2018 Oil prices fell back a bit at the end of this week. EIA data shows a rise in U.S. production, but also another strong decline in inventories. Brent is struggling to hold above $70, and benchmark prices await some direction. IEA: Explosive growth in U.S. shale will test oil prices.  The IEA’s latest Oil Market Report paints a mixed picture for prices. Clearly, the market is tightening, the IEA says, but it also says that shale growth will be “explosive” this year.
